Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra
Filler: Dominican Republic
Size: Corona (4 7/8 x 40)
Strength: Full

Construction: This toothy wrapper is oily, dark and beautiful to stare at. The tobacco was packed heavy and you will not find any soft spots on the La Flor Dominicana L-200. A single medium sized vein may be found but will not effect the burn.

Draw: The La Flor Dominicana L-200 was smokable with punch but performed perfectly with a cut or a deep v-cut. It had the right amount of resistance to prevent the small cigar from burning hot and the smoke was still plentiful.

Burn: The burn on the La Flor Dominicana L-200 was perfect and created a gray ash.

Flavor: When you are smoking a cigar that is smaller in size you decrease the chances of the filler tobacco playing a major role in the complexity or flavor profile. Generally speaking you then increase the chance of your palate only recognizing the wrapper that is used on the cigar.

This is exactly what happened as we were smoking the La Flor Dominicana L-200. From start to finish you palate will be filled with the aroma and taste of the Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. Sumatra wrapper, again generally speaking, is going to deliver the same consistent flavor regardless of what cigar your smoking it on.

With a small cigar that has very little tobacco to intrigue your palate some people will find this boring. Granted that the Ecuadorian Sumatra is spicy – this is really all it has going for it.

Final Verdict: La Flor Dominicana L-200 Cabinet Oscuro retails for around $6.25 and can be found online at the $4.50 price mark. This is a cigar one would buy if they like smooth cigars and/or truly enjoy the taste of Ecuadorian Sumatra. Others who strive for something more complex or demand more value for their hard earned dollars should not purchase the stogie. If you really want to try this type of cigar I would suggest getting a larger size for a couple of cents more. The tobacco then might just make this smoke worth it.

Wrapper: Nicaraguan Sun Grown
Filler: Dominican
Size: Toro (6 x 52)
Strength: Full

Construction: Any product made by La Flor Dominicana is going to have great construction. And by saying that I do mean that this Coronado line is no exception, the construction is absolutely amazing. This wrapper, like many other Sun Grown cigars, has a slight red tint with a medium brown base color. The Coronado has very fine veins and a slightly oily wrapper. It is firm, filled with tobacco, and will never give you any problems unraveling during the smoking process.

Draw: Perfection. Coronado by La Flor has the kind of draw that pours great smoke on your palate but requires the correct amount of resistance.

Burn: This particular Coronado had been aged for approximately two years. The aged cigar had a slower burn that was still perfect and did not require any types or corrections. If you were to pick up this stogie fresh from your local B&M you can expect the Coronado to burn a bit quicker, and again, still perfect. Your ash created will be very solid and will only come off with a nice firm tap.

Taste: Coronado by La Flor is a very complex cigar that will please anyone with a medium-full body palate.

Initially you will get a great sense of the tobacco being used as it is introduced with a real peppery finish and a nice creamy smoke coating your palate. After your first puffs you will notice that your cigar is not overwhelmed by pepper but it acts as a partner to the complex flavors trickling in. Earthiness, leather and spice are the primary flavors.

At the middle of the cigar it is still hard to describe the complexity of the Coronado as it bombs your palate with rich flavors. The smoke is thick and creamy and the primary notes you will pick up are caramel and leather with perhaps a slight sun grown spice. It is possible you will pick up a bit of earthiness lingering in the background.

The best part of the Coronado by La Flor is that you never loose the taste of the tobacco being used. Instead it amplifies the leather, caramel, spice and creamy smoke that you are experiencing. It is consistent from start to finish and I promise it will leave you wanting to smoke another to see if you can pull out individualized components.

Final Verdict: Price range is $8.xx at the local B&M wile online it hovers around the $6.xx-7.xx sticker. I didn’t do the Coronado by La Flor any justice in trying to describe the smoking experience it delivers. Just take my word (and everyone else on this planet) that this cigar is truly amazing. The full body smokers will enjoy the cigar if smoked relatively fresh. The medium-full body smokers will absoulty fall in love with the Coronado with as little as 1-2 years worth of age. So my suggestion would be to buy a box now for smoking and a box for aging!

Wrapper: Ecuador Sumatra
Filler: Dominican Republic
Size: Toro (6.5 x 52)
Strength: Full

La Flor Dominicana Limitado III, also known as the Limitado III, is the creation of Litto Gomez. The cigar is named “Limitado” or Limited due to the release of only 2,000 boxes. Interestingly enough the tobacco is grown on Litto Gomez’s personal farm.

Construction: As soon as you pick up the La Flor Dominicana Limitado III you realize you are in for one long smoke. I might even go out on a limb and say this cigar could be intimidating to some. The Limitado III is a very beautiful dark stick. The wrapper has lots of veins; I thought it seemed a little too veiny for a cigar in this price range, or a cigar with a “Limited” title.

Litto’s Limitado has absolutely no soft spots in the cigar. Everything was nice and firm, but not too hard.

Draw: I would suggest punching the La Flor Dominicana Limitado III cigar. Learning this after smoking my first Limitado III due to its SUPER EASY draw. As you notice the pictures below (2nd picture) this post you can see the smoke pouring out of the punch and the lit portion of the cigar.

Burn: LFD Limitado III burned fairly well and even. Drawing very easily meant the burn was also a bit quick. I did not think this was much of an issue because the cigar is large in size.

Ash was firm and stayed on the cigar until I was for it to be removed. For the $9 price range I would have expected the ash to be more firm and more white in color. This ash was “peppery“.

Taste: Allow me to divide this section in thirds:

This is a full bodied cigar from start to finish. Initially you will be hit by a lovely taste of pepper that transforms into a nutty / coffee type of smoke.

The second third of the Limitado only now leaves a hint of spice. The overpowering flavors become that nuttiness / coffee taste. There seems to be another taste in there that I cant put my finger on. It’s some kind of wood-ish finish.

Transitioning over from that “wood-ish” finish I was getting at before, I now get a nice cedar smoke. Finishing this third of the cigar there is something else on my pallet that again I can not pinpoint. Something sweet, something interesting.

Verdict Is: La Flor Dominicana Limitado III was an interesting smoke. The cigar was a very full bodied smoke. But to be perfectly honest I think my description ends right there. This wasn’t very unique, and it was not the best smoke I have had in this price range (or even lower price ranges).

If you love full bodied cigars give it a shot (it’s a $9 stick), but there is no need to buy the box (I don’t care how many were made).
