St.Louis Cigars Club 94. – Chesterfield, MO

A handmade cigar has three major parts: the wrapper, the binder, and the filler.  With the wrapper you may choose a Maduro or a Natural… possibly a Connecticut.  This can make or break a cigar. The binder can be one of many leaves that did not make the cut as wrappers but are equally important to the cigar. Filler can contain multiple types of tobacco leaf or perhaps just one; and each of these can come from a different country. The crafting of a cigar lounge is similar to the crafting of a worthwhile cigar.

Every cigar lounge owner goes through the same type of questions. Every lounge is different for a reason. Who do they want to appeal to and what do they want their lounge to be? Do they want to have great customer service or the best prices around? Do they want to have a place where you can smoke a cigar and watch the game or hold a business meeting? Should they sacrifice seating for an epic humidor? These things, like a handmade cigar, define and ultimately make or break a lounge.

The St. Louis Cigar Club 94 Lounge has asked and answered all of these questions and has crafted a truly fine product. The lounge chose great customer service for the “wrapper”. Whether you are new to the cigar experience or an aficionado, they have someone there to help you find the perfect smoke. They have very competitive prices and a humidor that is substantial to say the least.

Their “binder” is the comfortable feeling of the lounge when you walk in. Whether it’s unwind time just for you after a long hard day or small talk with some of the regulars, you know there’s a seat for you. It is also a great place to go to watch your favorite team play on one of their TVs. They also have a well stocked bar if you feel like enjoying a nice scotch, whiskey, or beer while smoking one of your favorite cigars.

Most importantly, the “filler” of this lounge is the feeling you have when you leave. Many of the regulars you may have just met say goodbye as you’re going out the door. You know that you’re welcome back any time and you realize that you are already looking forward to your next visit. The filler in a cigar is what gives you so much of the taste of the cigar and is ongoing throughout the entire smoking experience. You realize that the friendly atmosphere is the perfect “filler”. This cigar lounge appeals to everyone and turns into a regular gathering spot.

With smoking bans in many cities it is hard to find a place like this… especially one that is so affordable! It gives you the smoking experience that you are looking for and a homey feel. After all, that is really what a cigar lounge should be all about. It’s making sure you have the perfect blend of customer service, selection, and enjoyment, just like many premium cigars: with the wrapper, binder and filler.

This review makes a fantastic point. Many of the cigar lounges I have visited abroad have failed any one of those three defining qualities. My favorite lounge was a little place in London ran by a few Cuban gentleman. Fine little place; low black couches, modestly sized humidor, and a fine hose of staff willing to answer questions of new comers, while still meeting the needs of the grizzled veterans. Obviously here in the states we can’t enjoy the finest cigars this world has to offer, for what seems like no reason at all. However, if that little lounge hadn’t had the atmosphere it did, I wouldn’t have smoked a Don Juan, much less a fine Cuban.

I’m pretty new to the cigar scene, and I’ve been here a couple of times. They really helped me choose a nice mild cigar. It was right up my alley.
