Partagas Lusitanias: Traditional Yet Not Any Less Good

Submitted by Alex on April 22, 2013 – 7:16 amNo Comment

Probably, everybody knows Partagas – this brand is, without a doubt, one of the most famous and best-selling lines of Cuban cigars. And if you are looking for a sure-fire favorite among Partagas cigars, it is the Partagas Lusitanias. Moreover, some smokers argue that it is not only the best Partagas cigar, but also the best cigar ever made.  Determined to find out what is so special about this particular cigar, I ordered them from

A box of Lusitanias arrived ten days later. They smelled wonderful, and they looked beautiful. The appearances weren’t deceptive at all. First of all, the construction and burn was excellent – this cigar has a good size (with a ring gauge of 49 and 194 mm length) and never goes out. The flavor can be enjoyed throughout the entire length of the cigar.

So let’s explore the taste and flavor in greater detail. It starts off rather mild, with notes of hazelnuts, almonds and café au lait, becoming stronger from then onwards. Notes of wood and roasted coffee beans are present in the rest of the cigar, followed by spicy notes in the final-third. Sometimes, I could feel even cinnamon and leather. The story runs that when these cigars saw the light of day, they were stronger. Since then, they have become milder and acquired the notes of earth and pepper.

As for the perfect marriage of two of man’s greatest pleasures – liquor and tobacco – the Partagas Lusitanias go especially well with a drink (mine was port wine).

Overall, I have really enjoyed this smoking experience from and can see why some say that it is the best cigar ever. Of course, I would have to try all Cuban cigars before saying that with objectivity.
