Cigar Robbers?
19 year old Jerome Golsten and a juvenile are charged with robbing Tom’s Cigar Store on Main Street. A clerk there says the pair came in on Thursday afternoon, pointed a gun at her, and demanded cash. The clerk thought the whole thing was a joke and the duo were using a play gun.
Then one of the robbers pulled the trigger on the gun, which did not fire. The gunman pulled the trigger a second time, hitting the ceiling tile with a bullet. The robbers then jumped over the counter and started to open the register but heard a siren and ran out without getting anything. It just so happens that an ambulance was driving by at the same time. The two robbers were caught not far from the crime scene.
Community College v. Tobacco
Craven Community College, a North Carolina College, has asked automotive instructor Robert Hall to remove an airbrushed image his students have put on the college race car. This image was of Hall gripping wrenches and smoking a cigar.
“I think the depiction of a faculty member or anyone else smoking sends a message that we don’t want to send,” college spokesman Sandy Wall said.
The school has been cracking down on smoking. Initially banning it completely from campus but have since created designated smoking areas as students were retreating to the street and forest.
“We had just been through a long, lengthy discussion with the trustees revisiting this issue, and they had made clear that they wanted an educational component with any changes they would make to the policy, and (the image) did not fall in line with that,” Wall said.
Hall had provided the vehicle for his class and had used his own money to purchase the parts for the students hands on experience. The students expressed disappointment as they worked over 50 hours to complete the hood.
Churchill’s Cigar Stub
Winston Churchill, you may know him as a former British prime minister, put a cigar out to attend a cabinet meeting in 1941. Long story short, this cigar nub was put up for auction recently with the expectation to reach £350 pounds. When the auction was completed that same cigar sold for 4,500 pounds, equivalent to about 7,459 dollars US.
