Cigar Ban Partially Lifted

Submitted by Alex on July 7, 2011 – 3:42 amOne Comment

We cigar aficionados don’t get good news very often. Cuban cigars are extremely difficult to obtain because of the US embargo, cigar smoking is banned practically in all public places and cigar makers are constantly threatened to be put out of business so even when you are smoking cigars within the safe confines of your home, you are always expecting somebody to take that cigar out of your mouth.

And here is the good news, folks – there is at least one place in America where cigar-lovers can enjoy a good old cigar with their meal. Nevada governor Brian Sandoval signed a measure allowing stand-alone saloons, taverns and bars where smoking is permitted to serve food.Governor Sandoval who lifted the statewide cigar ban in Nevada

However, you will have to be 21 to be admitted to these taverns. The decision of the Nevada governor benefits both parties – small business owners who have suffered losses since the statewide smoking ban took effect in 2006 and us, cigar rights enthusiasts who would love to see cigar rights reinstated.

And this is not all good news for today. The Washington, D.C. City Council has allowed hotels in this state to host one event per year where cigar smoking is allowed. Any Washington hotel that would like to benefit from this decision will have to pay $2,500 and permit employees to sit out this event with no consequence.

And though tobacco-free advocates are vehemently opposing these decisions and complaining (aren’t they always?), it seems that the cigar rights train finally moved forward and there is some hope for cigar aficionados.

The news came just in time, with Las Vegas completing preparations for the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association (IPCPR) Annual Convention & Trade Show that will be hosted there from July 17 to 21.
