Habanos Festival
The 11th Habanos Festival auctioned off many cigars that raised 981,000 Euros, or about $1,235,667.60 (USD), to help fund Cuban health care system.
Organized by the Habanos S.A. corporation, there were more than 1,000 visitors from 73 countries. The entire event was overseen by Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon.
Hoyo de Monterrey and Romeo y Julieta humidors with 120 bottles of the Spanish Torres Mas La Plana were sold for 140,000 Euros each. Other collections were also auctioned off from H.Upmann (61,000 Euros), Partagás (75,000 Euros), Montecristo and Trinidad (95,000 Euros).
Taking the spotlight on this evening was a Cohiba humidor containing 400 mixed cigars that sold for 350,000 Euros.
Manuel Garcia, vice-president of Habanos S.A., hosted the world launching of the Cohiba Gran Reserva Siglo VI cigar. Only 5,000 boxes with 25 cigars each have been produced.
The Habanos 2008 Awards were presented to the following people: Max Gutmann (Mexico) in the category of Business, Oleg Chechilov (Russia) Communications, and Armando Miguel Padrón (Cuba) for Production.
