Don’t worry if you have not heard of villiger stokkeby I had not before this either, so I did some research. So villager is an extremely well known pipe tobacco manufacture and recently decided to get into the premium cigar game. They had been making a few machine made cigars for a while and in 2009 they came out with their first premium cigar in America which was the 1888. This is where you may have heard the name before. Their newest addition to their collection of cigars is the La Capitana.

Pre light: The colors are beautiful it is almost a black wrapper which is a habano Colorado. It smells of spice and chocolate which were nice and strong smells. I liked what I saw and smelled so I cut it and started it up

First third: Unfortunately I was disappointed in the first third of the cigar those original smells were there but there flavors were not. At the start it was just more of a medium tobacco taste to it. I even was drawing twice before blowing the smoke out trying to get to those flavors but they were just not there.

Second third: As I got into my second third it started to get a little bit better. I started to get a little bit of spicy and sweetness to the smoke which was kind of nice to get rid of the young tobacco taste. The burn was virtually prefect and it held its ash very well.
Last third: The flavors slowly started to get a little bit stronger but still nothing extremely special. You get a little bit of nutty flavor towards the end and that is pretty much it. It is not a complex cigar the flavors are masked a lot by the taste of the younger tobacco.

I feel that this cigar would be better if you were to age it maybe leave it in a humidor for a few months and try it again. It just did not have the flavors that the initial sent gave away. I would like to try others of villigers cigars I think they have the ability to make a great stick but unfortunately this was not the one. I would encourage them to keep try and thanks for the sampler.

Cigar: La Palina El Diario Torpedo
Size: 6.125 x 52
Wrapper: Honduran Corojo ’99 Rosado
Binder: Honduran Criollo ’98 (x2)
Filler: Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 and Criollo ’98
Strength: Medium bodied

I recently reviewed the gordo size of this cigar and wrote it how it smoked… This was nothing special and nothing complex. I had smoked a couple of them just to make sure it wasn’t just one but I came up with the same results. When I smoked this torpedo wow was I hit with a blast of flavor it was by far one of the best cigars that I smoked over the holiday season. I had actually even bought some to have my friends try to make sure I was not the only one getting the great taste out of the stick.

Flavor: It was complex with flavors of nutty and chocolate. These flavors were consistent throughout the entire cigar and it was a great combination. Now at first the chocolate over powered the nutty but as you got about half way through they started to even each other out. Towards the end the nutty flavor was the stronger of the two.

Appearance: Many could argue but to me there is no prettier cigar than the torpedo shape. This one is no exception to the rule. It is a beautiful dark wrapper with a nice oily tone to it. There are no blemishes of any kind with very tight and visible seems.

Draw and burn: The draw on this was beautiful just the right amount of smoke. The torpedo shape helps to funnel all of the smoke to the sweet spot in your mouth which I think could be the reason why I taste so much chocolate to start with.

This is a nice little stick and is great with a nice glass of water it will clean your pallet just enough to continue to give you those great flavors draw after draw. I think this a good stick to talk with your friends about if they like a medium to full cigar and want to try something new this may be the right stick for them. I really enjoyed the flavors I got for this and will smoke another one soon I’m sure.

Both of these cigars were released in 1992 and international in 1994. These select cigars were created to celebrate 500th anniversary of Columbus coming to the new world. These cigars were selected from some of the finest tobacco at the time. These were rolled for a newer audience of smokers and were much milder and creamy than a lot of other cigars at the time. This was a great choice by Cohiba and it caught on throughout the cigar industry.

Apperance: I’m not sure about you but I have rarely seen any Cohiba’s that looked bad. Especially not in the siglo series they pay so much attention to detail. These were both beautiful cigars. For this I would have to give them a Tie.

Siglo III: This stick has a beautiful caramel colored wrapper and is virtually vainless. There is not a blemish anywhere to be found. It has a perfect three ring cap and smells great right out of the tube.

Siglo IV: There is not much of a difference here it is also a extremely great job done while wrapping this cigar. There a slightly darker wrapper but still very caramel wrapper. It is constructed with great care you can tell just by looking at it.

First Third: The first third of both of these cigars were great. They had some slight flavor differences but at the beginning they were both fairly spicy. The siglo III had some pepper notes which were slight but delightful. Whereas the siglo IV had a little nuttiness to it. I would give the first third to the Siglo III.

Second Third: The second third one of the sticks had a drastic change and the other stayed the same. They siglo IV got a very nutty and coffee taste to it will is quite a nice surprise when you were used the spice of the first third. The siglo III stayed mostly spicy and the pepper notes got a little stronger. I would have to say that the Siglo IV wins this round because of the change in flavors.

Last Third: In the last both of these fantastic cigars finished strong. The siglo IV was a nice nutty flavor that will make you want to smoke another. The siglo III was finishing up with almost a sweet pepper taste to it which is exactly what cohiba was looking for when they made these cigars. The last third goes to the Siglo III.

Pairing: They both were great to smoke by themselves and I would recommend doing so for such great cigars. If you are someone who likes to pair their sticks with a drink I would have to say for the siglo III a nice glass of whiskey or old rum would be best to compliment to sweet yet spicy flavors. As far as the siglo IV I’m not totally sure what you would want to pair this with because of all the changes in flavors maybe a light beer so that it does not interfere with the flavor change. The pairing with a drink hands down goes to the Siglo III.

Conclusion: I loved both of these cigars and I constantly tell everyone I know about them. They are great to share with family and friends and most people I share them with love them too. But in this fight I can only choose one winner and I would have to go with the Siglo III. It has always been one of my favorites and it constantly impresses me. I feel it is more rounded then the Siglo IV. If you have a hard day sit down smoke one of theses and let you worries slide away.

*”MUWAT Bait Fish… a little fellow with a HUGEEE personality!! Coming soon!!!@JonathanDrew1 @drewestatecigar”

The Muwait line has been released this summer and was conceived as a medium bodied cigar in general. However their new format “Bait Fish” is considered to be a little stronger than medium, that’s why it received the EF mark – as extra fuerte (i.e. strong).

This is a cigar with a 4x 44 dimensions that will be sold only through NewHavanaCigars.com and is officially called the Bait Fish EF. Its smoking period will last from 30 to 40 minutes and recommended mostly as a winter smoke. As Jonathan Drew has mentioned in his open letter, it would please most men during a winter time and would be able to warm their hearts.

Well, let’s hope the new cigar will be released a little sooner than winter comes into our houses, otherwise we’ll need something very strong to stay warm and be still waiting for the arrival of MUWAT” Bait Fish”.
These people are celebrities we (almost) all admire and like watching on TV or hearing on the radio. Never thought about what they are thinking about when smoking a cigar or just expressing an opinion about a stogie?
Here are some of the most interesting and considerable sayings from people who like both acting and smoking:
“I kissed my first girl and smoked my first cigarette on the same day. I haven’t had time for tobacco since”, – Arturo Toscanini (Italian conductor)
“Remember, if you smoke after sex you’re doing it too fast”, – Woody Allen (US Director and Actor)
“It has always been my rule never to smoke when asleep, and never to refrain when awake”, – Mark Twain (US Writer)
“Gentlemen, you may smoke”, – King Edward VII of England (after assuming the throne. His mother, Queen Victoria, had previously banned smoking in court).
“As you approach thirty, you have a thirty ring gauge; as you approach fifty, you have a fifty ring gauge”,- Cuban sayings (not quiet about this subject but still true )
“A cigar has “…a fire at one end and a fool at the other”, – Horace Greely (an American newspaper editor, a founder of the Liberal Republican Party, a reformer, and a politician as stated on Wikipedia- not very known for mere mortals but still a celebrity in his filed )
“The cigar is the perfect complement to an elegant lifestyle. The cigar numbs sorrow and fills the solitary hours with a million gracious images”, – George Sand (French Author and a Woman:))
“Given the choice between a woman and a cigar, I will always choose the cigar”, – Groucho Marx (an American comedian and film star)
“If your wife doesn’t like the aroma of your cigar, change your wife”, – Zino Davidoff (an American tobacconist)
“Cigar smoking knows no politics. It’s about the pursuit of pleasure, taste, and aroma”,-Someone
And a lot of mark Twain’s statements to close this never-ending topic:
“No one can tell me what is a good cigar–for me. I am the only judge… There are no standards–no real standards. Each man’s preference is the only standard for him, the only one which he can accept, the only one which can command him”
“Eating and sleeping are the only activities that should be allowed to interrupt a man’s enjoyment of his cigar.”
“If I cannot smoke in heaven, then I shall not go.”
“I have made it a rule never to smoke more than one cigar at a time”, – Mark Twain (everyone knows this American author and humorist ).

I hope you liked my selection, so I’m waiting for your favoring cigar sayings as well.

Size: 5 x 50 (Lot 50/Robusto)
Wrapper: Olancho San Agustin (Honduras)
Binder: Connecticut Broadleaf
Filler: Nicaragua, Honduras
Strength: Medium to full

I recently had a new cigar lounge open near me and was handed a free coupon for a box of CAO OSA Sol cigars as kind of a door prize. I am not one to let something like that go to waste so I went home and ordered my box. When they arrived I was shocked at how unconventional they looked compared the rest of CAO’s line up.
OSA stands for Olancho San Agustin which is a specific area that it was grown in. It was also proprietary to the 2008 crop. So this is a very selective cigar. It had ideal climate conditions and prefect embodying oils. It looks as if the wrapper on this was made specifically for this cigar. It shows before you even smell it, that you will be smoking a very earthy flavored and medium to full in strength.

At first smell I was shocked at how powerful the smell was I could not wait to get down to smoking it. For the first few puffs the draw was rather firm but lightened up as the smoke went on. It would not keep an ash to save its life but honestly not the biggest thing in the world. I was doing a couple different things to keep it on but anything other than smoking it straight up and down the ash would fall.

I loved how different the taste of this was compared to some of CAO’s other main stream cigars. This shows that CAO’s is still a top competitor in today’s market and is willing to try new thing for their fellow smokers. The flavor is very constant throughout the whole smoke and is definitely the same earthy flavors you expected just from seeing the wrapper.

Its construction was not the best I have seen from CAO. It was somewhat new to CAO so we can let it slide this time since it is such a good smoke. I would recommend this cigar to anyone who is a fan of the brand and even if you’re not this is a new type of cigar for them and I feel they did a great job.

Country Dominican Republic
Size Gordo
Length 6.25”
Ring gauge 54
Wrapper Connecticut shade
Filler Brazil, Dominican Republic
Binder Connecticut shade
Strength Medium

The cusano brand started out making cigars in 1995 and started to create some very unique blends. This cigar has been created to continue on and reinforce that legacy. It is one of my personal favorites from the brand. There is so much that goes into this cigar from the double Connecticut wrapper one used as the wrapper the other as the binder. To the 18 year old Dominican wrapper leaves used as the fillers, they were part of an experiment done in the 1980’s and for they could not be used for wrappers if the cigar was longer than 4 inches. Some might think that using these “supposed to be” wrappers as the filler would not turn out well but it does.

Appearance: The look of this cigar is beautiful. The wrapper is almost perfect not a visible imperfection in sight. The construction of the stick makes you not want to waste a single second to light it up but also makes you step back and look at the beauty.

Flavor: This is one of the creamiest cigars I have ever had. I feel this goes well with a nice beer instead of something hard. It is very complex and changes tastes multiple times throughout the smoke. You will get a smooth and silky flavor mostly though. It is a very sweet cigar which everyone can enjoy from time to time.

Draw and Finish: When you have a cigar this size draw is one of the hardest things to get right. On this little beauty you get a very nice draw every time. The finish is a tad harsher but not by much, it is a pleasant smoke through and through.

Value: For someone on a budget this is a perfect match for you because these only run about $4.50 a stick! It is something that I regularly have in my humidor and I would encourage you to do the same. It is a great smoke for an evening to relax or at a bar with your friends it is very versatile.

Conclusion: I normally smoke a medium to full cigar and that fits most of my needs but when I’m looking for a milder flavored cigar this would be the one to reach for. They make perfect gift to someone who might not smoke as often as you and it won’t break your bank. Cusano definitely accomplished what they were looking for in keeping their legacy of unique blends and flavor.

If you enjoy a great game of poker every once in a while, and while play you love to smoke a cigar. Then this is definitely a cigar for you. It is a very long smoke so it would work very with something like poker or even golf. It’s a nice cigar for those type of reasons because a few things. One, being its large Gordo size, two being it is not a terribly complex cigar so you don’t have to worry about confusing flavors instead of the game.

Appearance: It has a beautiful wrapper almost perfect with very few veins. It’s a dark chocolate color with a strong smell of tobacco. The triple cap is a sight to be seen it had to be rolled someone very skilled.

Draw and Burn: The draw on this cigar was a little loose. In order to get the desired smoke I was usually taking one and a half or two puffs. The burn was beautiful I lit it and didn’t have to worry about burn during the whole smoke. It amazed me also on how well it kept its ash I had smoked almost 2 inches before it gave away.

Flavor: I was surprised that it did not change flavor at all during the smoke it was very consistent. I am used to smoking cigars with many different flavors that change as you get farther into the cigar this one did not. It was primarily a very leathery flavor very strong. It if only about a medium bodied cigar but definitely full in flavor.

This cigar gave me a little bit of a headache it was kicking about half an hour into the stick. It is a very great cigar to have in a collecting for someone who really likes strong cigars. I think it was a beautiful cigar and the burn was great. I would recommend this to someone who was looking for a nice cigar to last about 2 hours.

I’m ashamed to confess it but I didn’t manage to smoke one of the greatest cigars of all Cuban times and nations yet. Cohiba Robusto cigar is worth mentioning and reviewing as much as possible because it’s one of the best and most sough-after Cuban cigars in the world.

I must say I was very lucky to get a cigar of such quality in a very good shape. It’s always disappointing to be rarely able to smoke those beauties and get some from the bad batch.

So, as I said before it was an example of a nice looking, perfectly rolled stogie with an oily texture and almost no veins on it. But I know from my own experience that good-looking is not always the sign of a perfectly tasting cigar.

The draw wasn’t perfect from the very start but thanks God it improved and I didn’t even manage to get nerves and spoil my overall pleasant mood for that day.

First third: peppery, peppery once again and woody – that’s what I felt when smoked the first part of this wonderful cigar. Though I must admit I felt some other nuances there as well, like creaminess and earthiness closer to the second part.

Second third: creaminess starts to gain power and mixes with pleasant notes of honey which I always liked from childhood.

Last third: didn’t disappoint me either – got a lot of creaminess along with cocoa and a little leather in the end.

Very decent cigar and a strong bodied one. So if you’re only a novice in this cigar deal, be aware to smoke it as your first stick – it could be just too much for you

One question I will get from many of my friends who like to enjoy cigars from time to time is can you really get full body and big taste from a small cigar? When I they would ask me this I would think of many cigarellos which don’t really stand up to most premium cigar tastes. When you think of premium cigars you think of many different sizes but something small is not necessarily what you think of.

Recently I was given Partagas black label prontos and wow was I surprised! This is the best small cigar I have ever had. I don’t think anyone else has even come close to making a cigar with so much taste and make it so small. It was an idea that creator Ramón Cifuentes to make a full bodied cigar due to the high demand for full bodied and full flavored cigars. They really did a good job of just that, the perfect blend and flavor for these cigars.

Appearance: The wrappers on these sticks are just as it says in the name… They are black. It is one of the darkest wrapper I have seen on a cigar. There are a few veins on the wrapper but nothing too much to complain about. The surprise is that it is not a maduro, they get the color by aging the plant about 50% longer.

Flavor: At first glance some people might think that this cigar would be over powering with flavor. With the smell of the cigar you know that is not the case it has soft peppery smell. As you smoke it there are more earthy flavors and even a nice little hit of cherry. It is a very complex full of flavor cigar.

When you initially draw on this cigar you really can tell the peppery flavor it has but you will notice that there is something much more complex present. It has a great draw and a very large amount of smoke which is surprising since it is such a small cigar. By about half way I was shocked at how much the cigar has changed in flavors. I started to get flavors such as coffee and earthy flavors and slowly this hint of cherry which was strange but fit perfectly. As I started to end this great smoke I did see the down side to this cigar… It’s too small. I will definitely be investing in some of their larger sizes of the black label line.

Conclusion: This is the best smoke for someone who doesn’t have time to smoke a large cigar. If you are at work and get a lunch break free this is a cigar I would recommend for you to take along. Or if you just want to go set outside on a nice summer day and have one with some friends they are inexpensive enough that you could buy enough for all your friends. I feel for the price this is the best small cigar with big taste you can buy.
